Behind the prim and proper facade of the perfect student, Rin Tohsaka is not just a mage, not just an inheritor of a position in the war, not just someone trying to be a soldier but also a bit of a tease.
Not that she can take what she deals out, of course.
Despite hiding her real personality behind this, she is relatively grounded, even if she can only show her real persona to Kirei and Mitsuzuri - and Issei Ryudou whenever they quarrel.
Perhaps that facade is not as well-made as first appears.
Her father died early on in her life, during the last Grail War and since she has been raised as his successor by his student Kotomine Kirei.
The role of perfect student she hides behind is not merely to keep up the world of magecraft secret, but to hide the burden she bears as the new head of the now miniscule Tohsaka family. Even her image as a Mage is somewhat of a role she plays as well, as she is far more falliable than she lets on - messing up her summoning of Saber so badly she summons an amnesiac Archer.
Rin Tohsaka is a young girl playing dual roles, neither of which really represent the real her. No wonder she has such a hair-trigger temper.
With no real desire for the Grail outside of family obligation, despite being the picture of an ideal Magus, she is maybe as out of place in this War as Shirou.
